大三島みんなの参道物語　〜子どもたちが描く未来編〜

今年のゴールデンウィークに行われた参道マーケットは例年と違った賑わいを見せたようです。5年ぶりの開催に加えて、今年は島の子ども達に大三島のイメージを絵に描いてもらい、参道に吊って展示したことも賑わいに大きく色を添えました。

子ども達の絵は、みかん、自転車、橋、大鳥居など島のシンボルを奔放に、そしてカラフルに描いていて、家族で仰ぎ見ている姿は感動的でした。

　そこで今年のミュージアムの展示は現在展示中のテーマ「大三島みんなの参道物語」を子ども達に描いてもらうことにしました。上記の参道マーケットの「のれんプロジェクト」をはじめ、すでに実施された「子どもがつむぐ参道物語」のワークショップ、新たに実施された「参道をあかりで照らそう」や「港からはじまる参道物語」の報告も展示したいと考えています。

　今回の展示を企画する伊東建築塾では、2011年から毎年東京で「子ども建築塾」を開催してきました。その報告は2022年にミュージアムで展示させて頂きましたが、小学校４〜6年生の子ども達に年20回の「いえって何だろう」とか「まちって何だろう」というテーマで自由に夢を描いてもらっています。

　子ども達は大人が想像もしなかったようなアイデアをのびのびと描いてくれます。そうした子ども達の夢が大三島で叶ったら、きっと大三島の明るい将来を担ってくれるに違いありません。

Stories of the Approach-for-All on Omishima: Envisioning Tomorrow Through the Eyes of Children

The Sando Market held during this year’s Golden Week at the sando (approach) to the Oyamazumi Shrine displayed a different level of vibrancy. In addition to being the first time in five years that the market was held, we also displayed drawings by local children depicting their visions of Omishima. These colorful illustrations added a unique charm to the event’s atmosphere.

The children’s drawings featured iconic symbols of the island — mikan (mandarin oranges), bicycles, bridges, and the grand torii (entrance gate to the shrine) — all depicted with lively and vivid creativity. It was truly moving to see families gathered together, looking up at the noren (outside curtain) artworks overhead.

For this year’s museum exhibition, we have decided to have the children illustrate the theme of our current exhibition, “Stories of the Approach-for-All on Oshima.” In addition to the “Noren Project” at the Sando Market mentioned above, we will showcase the “Stories of the Approach Woven by Children” workshop that is already being held, as well as the outcomes of new projects, including “Let’s Light Up the Approach” and “Stories of the Approach Beginning from the Port.”

This exhibition is being planned by Ito Juku, which has been conducting the “Architecture School for Children” in Tokyo annually since 2011. The results of this programme were exhibited at the museum in 2022, where children aged between 9 to 12 years old freely expressed their dreams through drawings under themes such as “What is a House?” and “What is a Town?” across 20 sessions throughout the year.

Children often have ideas that adults could never imagine. If their dreams are realized on Omishima, they will undoubtedly play a crucial role in shaping a bright future for the island.
